Porto

It is the great gateway and can be the starting point of a journey through the natural and cultural diversity of the region. It is known for the wine that goes from here to the whole world, but also for the School of Architecture, from which the names of Álvaro Siza Vieira and Souto de Moura, both Pritzker prizes, came from. And also for a heritage that knows how to combine the antiquity of churches and monuments, such as the Cathedral or the Church of S. Francisco, with the contemporaneity of notable buildings such as the Casa de la Música, the Museum of Serralves and others.

Get to know the region

The Douro River runs through the region. It enters Portugal between the ravines and mountains of the interior to go through the whole World Heritage landscape where the wines of Porto and Ribeira do Douro are grown. It is here that the wine is produced which follows the Gaia wineries and the cruise ships that visit the region.

In this region of mountains and natural parks, the heritage extends to the castles, such as Guimarães, or to the sanctuaries and churches that in summer are the scene of pilgrimages. Next to the rural chapels we find the baroque of the north of Portugal made of granite and golden wood. In the cities that have managed to preserve the human scale, such as Viana do Castelo, Braga, Lamego, Chaves or Vila Real, or in the farmhouses and manor houses, we find the most authentic Portuguese, who genuinely likes to welcome, to share their table and their traditions. In Oporto and in the north of Portugal we naturally experience joy and gratitude for all that we have and are.
